About the Role: Account Development Client Engagement Manager
We're seeking an experienced Manager - Account Development to join our Client Engagement Team. As a telephone-based role, you'll be responsible for engaging with identified customers, managing relationships, and providing tailored solutions in partnership with risk, underwriting, merchant services, and marketing teams. This dynamic position involves a mix of portfolio management and monthly customer actions, driven by data analytics to identify the biggest opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
- Planning (20% of time)
- Effectively manage a list of prioritized customers with existing American Express Business/Corporate programs where engagement opportunities have been identified.
- Meet minimum expectations for Formula For Success (FFS), including a set number of calls, customer meetings, and other productivity metrics.
- Client Solution (80% of time)
- Demonstrate a high level of Financial Fluency and understanding of underwriting and risk processes to drive results through creative problem-solving.
- Partner closely with risk, underwriting, and GMNS to identify and develop customer solutions based on their needs.
- Utilize consultative skills to retain customer relationships and charge volume.
- Maintain a high level of knowledge about American Express products, processes, key internal partners, and tools.
- Collaborate with the Field Dedicated Portfolio Account Development team for face-to-face customer visits when necessary.
- Compliance (100% of time)
- Ensure adherence to the American Express Code of Conduct, Sales Practices policies, standards, and procedures to uphold the highest standards in customer interactions and meet regulatory requirements.
Essential Qualifications, Skills, and Experience

- Financial Fluency: Strong understanding of financial concepts and underwriting and risk processes.
- Relationship Management: Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships.
- Consultative Selling: Skill in identifying client needs and configuring solutions that deliver value.
- Closing: Ability to overcome objections and resistance to proposed solutions.
- Influence & Persuasion: Effective use of interpersonal styles and communication methods to gain acceptance for products and services.
- Demonstrating Value: Consistent demonstration of the value of partnering with American Express.
- Results Focus: Positive, competitive attitude with the ability to adapt to different situations and recover from setbacks.
- Market, Industry, & Product Knowledge: Understanding of market/industry competitors, challenges, terminology, technology, trends, and regulation at a tactical level.

Experience
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- Excellent sales experience (2-3 years preferred)
