Job Overview

The Department of Psychology at Penn State invites applications for a non-tenure-track Teaching Faculty position in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, with a start date of either January 2024 or August 2024. This full-time position will be filled at the rank of Lecturer, Assistant Teaching Professor, Associate Teaching Professor, or Teaching Professor, depending on the candidate's qualifications and experience. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching a range of courses, including Industrial/Organizational Psychology, introductory psychology, research methods, and statistics, as well as contributing to the department's service and outreach activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach three courses per semester during the academic year, including resident and online instruction
  • Develop and implement engaging course materials and curricula that cater to diverse learning styles and needs
  • Mentor and advise students, providing guidance and support to help them achieve their academic and professional goals
  • Participate in departmental service and outreach activities, including committee work, community engagement, and professional development
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the department's strategic plan, including initiatives related to diversity, equity, and inclusion

Essential Qualifications

To be considered for this position, candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Psychology or a related field, or have completed all the requirements of the Ph.D. by the appointment date. A background in Industrial/Organizational Psychology is critical, and previous teaching experience is preferred. Candidates must also demonstrate a commitment to building an inclusive, equitable, and diverse campus community, or describe one or more ways they would envision doing so, given the opportunity.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience teaching courses in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, as well as core courses such as introductory psychology, research methods, and statistics
  • Strong record of teaching effectiveness, including the ability to engage and motivate students from diverse backgrounds
  • Experience with online instruction and course development, including the use of learning management systems and other educational technologies
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively with students, colleagues, and community partners
