Job Summary
This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) position starting at the beginning of the 2023/24 school year. As a Health & Physical Education Teacher at Spencer Butte Middle School, you will be responsible for instructing and supervising a diverse group of students, creating a positive learning environment, and promoting a high level of achievement for all students. You will work collaboratively with other teachers, staff, and community members to develop and implement curriculum, assess student progress, and provide support for students with diverse needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement engaging and challenging lesson plans that align with state and national standards for health and physical education.
- Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes student engagement, motivation, and achievement.
- Instruct and supervise students in health and physical education classes, including classroom management and student guidance.
- Assess student progress and provide feedback to students, parents, and administrators.
- Collaborate with other teachers and staff to develop and implement curriculum, assess student progress, and provide support for students with diverse needs.
- Utilize technology and software programs to enhance instruction and student learning.
- Participate in professional development activities to stay current with best practices in health and physical education.
- Communicate with parents and guardians regarding student progress and involve them in the educational process.
Essential Qualifications:
- Valid Oregon teacher's license with the appropriate endorsements (Health and Physical Education).
- ESOL endorsement preferred.
- Evidence of multi-cultural experience and cultural competency.
- Bilingual proficiency and/or multicultural experience strongly preferred.
- Experience differentiating practices for diverse populations.
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with diverse students, staff, and community populations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Health and Physical Education or related field.
- Experience working with students with diverse needs (e.g., special education, English language learners).
- Familiarity with technology and software programs used in education.
Skills and Competencies:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other teachers, staff, and community members.
