As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in helping students achieve their Individualized Education Program (IEP) objectives and develop essential life skills.
Job Summary
We are looking for a highly skilled and compassionate High School Special Education Self-Contained Teaching Assistant to provide support to students with special needs in a remote setting. The successful candidate will work closely with licensed teachers and therapists to implement instructional plans, modify lessons, and provide physical care and support to students as needed. This is a full-time position that requires 35 hours of work per week, with flexibility to work remotely.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement instructional plans as determined by licensed teachers and therapists to help students achieve their IEP objectives.
 - Apply lesson modifications as directed and supplement or change lesson modifications as needed to ensure that learning objectives are met.
 - Prompt, cue, and redirect students to keep them on task and engaged in learning activities.
 - Administer curriculum-based tests and quizzes to assess student progress.
 - Ensure students record assignments, have correct materials, and complete assignments as needed.
 - Take notes of curriculum presented during class as appropriate for student needs.
 - Provide physical care and support as needed, including diapering, toileting, feeding, and reinforcing adaptive PE/motor activities.
 - Observe, document, and reinforce appropriate student behaviors and communicate activities to teachers and facilitators.
 - Participate in weekly team meetings to review student progress, plan upcoming lessons, and participate in trainings.
 - Assist with non-instructional activities and maintain safety, behavior, decorum, and order in common areas.
 - Retrieve students from buses or cars at the start of classes and escort students to appropriate buses or cars at the end of classes when required.
 - Record and update student progress toward achievement of individual educational plans.
 
Requirements and Qualifications
Essential Qualifications:
- Valid Educator License with Stipulations (PARA), Substitute License, or Professional Educator License.
 - Experience working with special education students is highly preferred.
 - Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
 - Basic arithmetic skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
 - Proficiency in using personal computers and software applications, such as Word and Excel.
 - Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals and be sensitive to individual differences.
 - Maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees, and others.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate's degree or higher in special education or a related field.
 - 60 semester hours of coursework in special education or a related field.
 - Experience with adaptive equipment and technology.
