About the Department of Biological Sciences
The Department of Biological Sciences at UNT is one of four departments in the College of Science, with over 45 faculty members, 160 graduate students, and 2,800 undergraduate students. Our faculty is a community of scholars dedicated to research and teaching in various areas, including Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Physiology, Neuroscience, Ecology, Environmental Science, Plant Biology, and organismal-environment interactions. We offer a range of undergraduate and graduate degree programs, including Bachelor's degrees in Biology, Biochemistry, Ecology, Medical Laboratory Science, and Forensic Science, as well as Master's and PhD degrees in Biology, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and Environmental Science.
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Lecturer (Continuing) in Biological Sciences to join our team at the Frisco campus, with a focus on Biochemistry, Genetics, and Cell Biology. This is a full-time, multiyear continuing position that involves teaching three courses per semester, including Introductory Biology, Genetics, Cell Biology, and Elementary Biochemistry, as well as serving as an advisor to our undergraduate students (up to 25% time commitment).
Key Responsibilities
- Teach three courses per semester, including Introductory Biology, Genetics, Cell Biology, and Elementary Biochemistry, at the Frisco campus, with at least one course per year at the Denton campus.
- Serve as an advisor to undergraduate students (up to 25% time commitment).
- Develop and deliver high-quality courses that align with departmental and university standards.
- Participate in departmental and university service, including committee work and other responsibilities as assigned.
- Stay current with developments in the field and incorporate new knowledge and technologies into teaching and advising.
Essential Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- A PhD in Biology, Biochemistry, or a related area.
- College teaching experience, preferably at the undergraduate level.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff.
Preferred Qualifications
We prefer candidates with:
- One or two years of full-time teaching experience at the college or university level.
- Prior experience teaching multiple courses, including Introductory Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics, and Cell Biology.
- Experience in undergraduate advising.
- Research experience in biochemistry, genetics, or cell biology.
- Ability to work with a diverse population.
- Experience with different learning technologies, including Canvas and online teaching.
