About the Role: Network Contracting Manager - Remote in IL/MO

We're seeking an experienced Network Contracting Manager to support the development of our provider network, ensuring it's geographically competitive, broad, and stable, while achieving objectives for unit cost performance and trend management. As a Network Contracting Manager, you'll play a critical role in creating an affordable and predictable product for our customers and business partners.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Conduct outreach to potential providers and support the development of our provider network, including physicians, pharmacies, ancillary groups, and facilities.
  • Perform straightforward contract negotiation and pricing, evaluating and negotiating contracts in compliance with company contract templates and reimbursement structure standards.
  • Establish and maintain strong business relationships with Hospital, Physician, Pharmacy, or Ancillary providers, ensuring our network composition includes an appropriate distribution of provider specialties.
  • Balance the financial and operational impact of contracts to providers, members, and different customer groups when developing and/or negotiating contract terms.
  • Support the evaluation of market rates and provider performance to establish provider rates and negotiation strategies.
  • Explain our organization's direction and strategy to internal partners and providers, justifying methodologies, processes, policies, and procedures.
  • Identify and gather information regarding provider issues, developing and/or implementing strategies to resolve matters, and escalating issues to appropriate internal business partners as needed.
  • Represent the department in external meetings, gathering relevant information, recommending solutions, executing on deliverables, and explaining results and decisions.
  • Monitor and/or oversee provider financial performance to identify opportunities to improve performance and/or provider relationships.
  • Monitor and/or oversee network performance and industry trends to identify opportunities to refine, develop, and/or implement market strategies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • 2 years of experience with network contracting or provider relations in a managed care environment.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and ability to utilize applicable financial tools and reports to develop rates.
  • Demonstrated understanding of contract language to assess financial and operational impact and legal implications of requested contract changes.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the competitor landscape within the market.
  • Proven ability to utilize appropriate contract management systems to author and execute contracts and access supplemental contractual documents.
  • Adherence to UnitedHealth Group's Telecommuter Policy for remote work.

Preferred Qualifications:

While not required, having experience in healthcare management, contract negotiation, and provider relations will be highly regarded. Additionally, knowledge of healthcare operations, market trends, and regulatory requirements will be beneficial.
