Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and visionary leader to join our team as the Director of Payments Procedure and Operations. In this highly visible, cross-functional, strategic, and operational role, you will be responsible for setting the long-term, strategic vision and ensuring the day-to-day operational excellence of accepting payments from our customers and processing them for our stores in North America (i.e., US and Canada). While the current focus is on North America, we anticipate that this role will support non-North America markets and identify valuable opportunities to establish payments in a global capacity.
Key Responsibilities
- Be partner-centered and partner-first, fostering strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Develop and manage internal and external partnerships to drive business growth and innovation
- Lead the development of a groundbreaking and innovative global payments/fintech strategy
- Balance innovative growth with day-to-day operational excellence, ensuring seamless customer experiences
- Drive the best financial results during contract negotiations, leveraging market insights and industry expertise
- Develop products and experiences that are informed by customer insights, leverage Starbucks and/or third-party technology, and are financially sound
- Set, monitor, and adjust financial budgets and targets, ensuring alignment with business objectives
Essential Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A 4-year bachelor's degree in a relevant field
- An MBA degree (preferred)
- 4+ years of relevant work experience, taking on roles of moderate responsibility
- A combination of consulting, daily payments operations, and product management experience across those 4+ years, with experience working in licensed or franchised organizations being a plus
- Comparable experience in merchant management and complex contract negotiations
- Experience with digital and retail technologies, e-commerce, and mobile applications, with significant experience working with technology and engineering teams to bring these capabilities to life
- Demonstrated knowledge and insight into the global payments/fintech landscape and ecosystem, with experience building and/or managing global payments platforms and partners
- Solid payments operations expertise, including cost and other guiding streamlining strategies to charge/credit organizations, in both a card-present and card-not-present environment
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications are highly desirable:
- 4+ years of experience driving large-scale, cross-functional operations with significant financial and operational impact, influencing individuals at various levels
- 4+ years of experience with project planning, management, and delivery of new products and experiences, including all aspects of scope, time, cost, risk, integration/dependence management, procurement, legal, and communications
- A customer-driven, technologically savvy professional, responsible for uniting business, technology, and operational needs, with a deep understanding of data and analytics combined with an innovative mindset to progress raw data into meaningful insights
