Job Summary

As an Elementary Special Education Teacher at FLCCA, you will play a critical role in providing instruction, support, and guidance to students with diverse needs. You will work closely with our students, parents, and colleagues to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that cater to each student's unique needs and goals. Your expertise and passion for special education will help us create a positive and inclusive learning environment that empowers our students to thrive.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement IEPs that align with each student's needs and goals, and provide high-quality instruction and support to students with diverse needs.
  • Collaborate with parents, colleagues, and other support staff to ensure that students receive comprehensive services and support.
  • Analyze student data to inform instruction and make data-driven decisions about student progress.
  • Host live synchronous sessions that promote a positive learning environment and engage students in their learning.
  • Participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and other professional development opportunities to stay current on best practices in special education.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, students, and colleagues through regular updates, reports, and meetings.
  • Make modifications and accommodations to K12 lessons and assessments as specified by the IEP.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure inclusion and success of students in the general education classroom.
  • Provide progress reports, semester and grade reports, and other documentation as required.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field.
  • Minimum three (3) years of teaching experience in special education.
  • Valid teaching certification in special education (Florida or other state).
  • Proficient in MS Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to travel at least once per month within and between assigned geographic areas.
  • Experience working with the proposed age group (elementary students).
  • Ability to clear required background check(s).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a virtual environment.
  • Experience teaching online (virtual) and/or in a brick-and-mortar environment.
  • Familiarity with Blackboard Collaborative or other online platforms.
  • Experience supporting adults and children in the use of technology.
  • Ability to quickly learn new technologies and tools.

  • Strong knowledge of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to analyze data and make informed decisions.
