Located in Spokane, WA, we invite applications for a full-time, tenure-track position as Assistant Professor in the Department of Teacher Education, specializing in the Master's in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (MA/TESOL) program. About the Role
The Assistant Professor, Teacher Education, will play a vital role in shaping the next generation of educators. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching core and elective courses in the MA/TESOL and ELL Endorsement programs, advising and mentoring students, and engaging them in meaningful community-based projects. This position requires a strong teaching and advising component, as well as a clearly articulated research agenda, to produce high-quality research outputs as part of the regular reappointment, promotion, and tenure process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach 18 credits of undergraduate- and graduate-level courses on topics of teacher education during the academic year and potentially during the summer within our TESOL programs.
- Teach during the summer semester under a separate contract.
- Advise candidates, including guidance in completing capstone Thesis/Projects.
- Supervise students in field experiences, practicum teaching experiences, and graduate assistantships.
- Maintain an active research agenda and contribute to local, regional, national, and international professional journals and conferences.
- Collaborate with department, School of Education, and community partners.
- Stay current in the field by conducting research, reading academic materials, and/or attending conferences.
- Attend and contribute to department and program meetings and other committees as needed.
Qualifications and Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Doctorate in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, or related area completed or close to completion.
- Minimum of one year of teaching experience at the university level.
- Minimum of two years of EFL teaching experience abroad.
- Evidence of a clearly articulated research agenda in TESOL.
- Demonstrated ability to teach and mentor students from diverse backgrounds, identities, and experiences, and an investment in social justice, equity, and inclusion.
- Evidence of ability to supervise undergraduate and graduate research projects and theses.
- Evidence of highly successful teaching at the graduate and undergraduate level in one or more of the following areas: Teacher Education (Elementary or Secondary), TESOL, Sociolinguistics.
- Demonstrated ability and interest in collaboration and community-engaged work, particularly with underrepresented and underserved communities.
- A record of professional accomplishments (publications, conference presentations, and active participation in professional organizations) and service.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
Desired Qualifications:
- Evidence of teaching and/or scholarship in two or more of the following areas: TESOL, Sociolinguistics, Language Acquisition, Course Design and Assessment, Instructional Technology, Indigenous Language Revitalization.
- Evidence of graduate student advising and mentorship.
- Evidence of education administration (e.g., program director, chair, etc.).
- Evidence of K-12 ELL teaching.
- Proficient knowledge of and/or literacy in a second or additional language.
- Ethnographic/Qualitative Research record.

Compensation and Salary
The hiring salary for this position is $64,337-$68,626, commensurate with education and experience.
