Job Summary: Key Responsibilities and Expectations

As an Instructional Assistant - English Language Development, you will work under the direction of a certified teacher to support the academic success and language acquisition of students. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Providing tutorial support to students in English Language Development, adapting instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners.
  • Assisting the teacher in developing and implementing lesson plans, materials, and activities that promote language acquisition and academic achievement.
  • Leading student exercises and activities, using a range of instructional strategies to engage students and promote learning.
  • Maintaining accurate and detailed records of student progress, including clerical tasks and filing systems.
  • Communicating effectively with students, teachers, and other staff members, using empathetic and disciplinarian approaches as needed.
  • Developing and maintaining positive working relationships with students, staff, and parents, fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.

Essential Qualifications: Education, Experience, and Skills

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following essential qualifications:

  • Ability to maintain clerical records and filing systems, with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to make independent judgments within established policies and procedures, demonstrating a high degree of autonomy and decision-making.
  • Ability to lead student exercises and activities, using a range of instructional strategies to engage students and promote learning.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with students, teachers, and other staff members.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with students, staff, and parents, fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Working knowledge of oral and written English, with the ability to communicate effectively with students and staff.
  • Bilingual skills (Spanish and/or Russian) are preferred, but not required.

Preferred Qualifications: Additional Skills and Experience

In addition to the essential qualifications, we are seeking candidates with the following preferred qualifications:

  • Knowledge of spelling, punctuation, capitalization, word usage, and sentence construction in English, with the ability to detect and correct basic errors in prepared materials.
  • Reasonable knowledge of office practices and procedures, with the ability to perform basic clerical tasks.
  • Experience working with students in an educational setting, with a strong understanding of child development and learning principles.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for working in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.
