Job Summary
As a Youth Care Advocate, you will be responsible for providing professional, safe care to our clients in a well-maintained and secure environment. You will work under the direction of the Assigned Supervisor to ensure that YMCA, DCF, and DEEC policies are applied, and that our clients receive the support and guidance they need to reach their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure all security procedures are followed to provide a safe, secure, and healthy environment for clients and staff.
- Closely monitor clients during their daily activities and night routine, ensuring that all rules and regulations are followed.
- Plan, implement, and supervise activities during free time for clients, such as games, discussions, and other recreational activities.
- Conduct thorough intake and discharge procedures, including all paperwork and careful storage and labeling of clients' belongings and valuables.
- Complete all paperwork and documentation as needed, including log entries, incident reports, meal count sheets, clinical reports, and security sheets.
- Prevent crisis situations from escalating by intervening and counseling clients in a calm, professional manner, utilizing Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Skills.
- Attend and participate in all required program meetings and professional trainings.
- Maintain required certifications, including MAP certification within six months of start date, dependent on DCF program.
- Accept advocacy responsibilities, coaching, mentoring, and supporting assigned residents.
- Report any suspected child abuse to the Supervisor on duty or DCF.
- Supervise, prepare, and assist in meal preparation and laundry chores.
- Be punctual in attendance and follow the program's policies and procedures.
- Receive permission from Program Director or designee prior to leaving your shift to ensure proper staff coverage.
- Maintain YMCA, DCF, DEEC policies and procedures, adhering to CARF standards.
- Work as part of a team with co-workers, following dress code policy.
- Complete resident monthly reports competently and on time.
- Assist other OCY programs as directed.
- Assume PIC (Person in Charge) responsibilities as assigned.
- Ensure emergency procedures are posted in the program and followed by all.
- Complete supply inventories upon request.
- Provide professional and courteous telephone service to all contacts when needed.
- Use your personal vehicle for work-related tasks, as required, and be reimbursed for mileage.
Requirements and Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- To be at least 21 years old.
- A High School education or equivalent.
- Basic computer knowledge.
- The ability to read and write cohesively for incident reporting.
- Yearly completion of DEEC required and OCY training programs.
