Key Responsibilities
- Carry out written and/or verbal instructional plans provided by certified teachers to support student learning and achievement.
- Assist with academic and learning activities, including tutoring, note-taking, modeling, mentoring, duplicating, grading, constructing materials, and general clerical work.
- Support students with special needs, providing daily and emergency personal care needs, such as wheelchair movement and positioning, toileting, feeding, and other activities as appropriate.
- Assist with control of students through interaction and supervision as directed by certified teachers.
- Perform non-instructional activities, such as maintaining classroom materials and supplies.
- Communicate effectively with teachers, staff, parents, and administrators, presenting information in one-on-one and small group situations.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding students' academic and social/behavioral performance.
- Work independently and cooperatively as a member of the team, demonstrating a professional attitude and composure under stressful conditions.
Essential Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you must:
- Have at least 60 semester hours of college credit or pass an approved paraprofessional test.
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing.
- Show a patient and receptive attitude toward children with special needs.
- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
- Work effectively in a team environment, collaborating with teachers, staff, and administrators.
- Possess fine motor skills and unrestricted mobility, with the ability to lift and/or move heavy objects, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
- Have good visual ability and be able to hear in a noisy environment.
Preferred Qualifications
While not required, the following qualifications are highly desirable:
- Experience working with students with special needs.
- Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques.
- Ability to adapt to changing situations and priorities.
- Proficiency in using educational software and technology.

The salary for this position is competitive and based on the agreement between the Board of Education and the Collinsville Educational Assistants Association, IEA/NEA. We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including opportunities for professional growth and development.
