Job Overview

As a Long-Term Substitute Special Education Teacher, you will be responsible for providing classroom coverage for a certified staff member who is absent for an extended period. Key Responsibilities

  • Assume all responsibilities and duties assigned to the absent certified staff member, including presenting lessons as outlined and described in materials prepared by the absent teacher.

  • Supervise and account for students in and out of classroom activities during the working day, developing rapport with students and serving as a positive role model.

  • Implement appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with District policies and procedures, taking necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Identify student needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve learning, health, and behavior problems.
  • Create an effective environment for learning by utilizing classroom technology when appropriate, upholding computer technology acceptable use policies, and reporting to the building principal or their designee to share issues or concerns.

Essential Qualifications

To be considered for this exciting opportunity, you must possess a valid Illinois Professional Educator License or Substitute Teaching License. You should have a strong knowledge of curriculum, instruction, and classroom management, as well as the ability to develop a quick rapport with students, building staff, and administration. Preferred Qualifications
