Key Responsibilities and Duties

As an Early Literacy Tutor at Reach Academy Elementary, your primary focus will be on providing intentional, data-driven literacy instruction and intervention to our TK-2nd grade students. This will involve:

  • Attending training sessions such as SEEDS of Early Literacy and SIPPS to enhance your skills in early literacy strategies.
  • Collaborating with classroom teachers, coaches, and other staff members to develop and implement personalized literacy plans for each student.
  • Providing one-on-one and small group instruction, using research-based interventions to support students in achieving the "Big Five Literacy Skills": phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
  • Assessing student progress through benchmark and progress-monitoring assessments, and using this data to inform instruction and make adjustments as needed.
  • Participating in regular coaching sessions to review student progress, plan instruction, and set goals for student achievement.
  • Maintaining accurate and detailed records of student progress and program data.

Essential and Preferred Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess a combination of the following qualifications:

  • Essential:
    • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
    • Strong interest in education, particularly in early literacy development.
    • Fluency in English (speaking, reading, writing, and understanding).
    • Basic computer skills, including the ability to navigate online databases and email.
    • Energetic, results-oriented, and student-focused, with strong planning and time management skills.
  • Preferred:
    • College coursework, degree, or equivalent experience in education or a related field.
    • Experience working with young children, preferably in an early childhood setting.
    • Patience, positive attitude, adaptability, sense of humor, and the ability to relate to diverse groups of people.
    • Valid California Driver's License (if applicable).
