Job Summary:
As an Alternative Education Teaching Assistant, you will provide essential support to our students, teachers, and parents. Your primary goal will be to address student behavioral difficulties by modeling effective behavioral interventions, assisting in the design and implementation of behavior plans, and promoting a safe and welcoming school environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide escorts and assistance to students as necessary, ensuring their safety and well-being
 - Maintain individual records for each student, implementing changes as needed to meet their unique needs
 - Coordinate student lunch procedures and practices, promoting a smooth and efficient process
 - Assist with social-emotional learning, encouraging students to develop self-discipline and essential life skills
 - Participate in student intervention meetings, providing valuable insights and recommendations to support student success
 - Train students to develop appropriate and useful skills to eliminate problem behaviors, promoting a positive and respectful school culture
 - Observe and provide input on intervention plans, ensuring their effective design and implementation
 - Collect and share multiple sources of data with other staff members, contributing to comprehensive record-keeping and student support
 - Assist behavioral consultants with staff development training in behavior management, enhancing the skills and knowledge of our educators
 - Alert teachers to special needs of individual students, ensuring they receive tailored support and accommodations
 - Interact with students and faculty to promote an atmosphere of safety within the school, ensuring smooth traffic flow and minimizing disruptions
 - Intervene in disturbances with patience and emotional detachment, utilizing verbal and physical skills to maintain control and resolve situations effectively
 - Perform other job-related duties as assigned by administration, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability
 
Requirements and Qualifications:
Essential Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in education, psychology, or a related field preferred
 - Positive interpersonal skills and the ability to relate well with teachers, parents, and students
 - Experience working with students with behavioral difficulties or special needs; experience in alternative education settings an asset
 - Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to maintain accurate records and reports
 - Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing multiple tasks and responsibilities
 
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification in behavior management, special education, or a related field
 - Experience with social-emotional learning programs and behavioral interventions
 - Familiarity with educational software and technology, including data management systems
