Job Summary

The Paraprofessional - Regular Education - CLS will work in the academic support center of Normal Community West High School to provide targeted support to students, both in-person and virtual. You'll work closely with Interventionists to identify and address the needs of each student, helping them to overcome challenges and achieve academic success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Communicate with referring teachers to understand the support needed for each student
  • Re-teach key concepts, vocabulary skills, and other areas as indicated by classroom teachers
  • Monitor re-assessment of concepts, skills, vocabulary, and other areas to ensure student understanding
  • Supervise independent student work and technology-based lessons used for remediation and online learning
  • Collaborate with Administration and Guidance to develop a peer tutoring program
  • Monitor attendance, behavior, and academic success of students, providing support and guidance as needed
  • Collaborate with other student support staff to ensure a comprehensive and coordinated approach to student support

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

  • A registered license with the Regional Office of Education #17 at the time of hire
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to work effectively with teachers, education support personnel, building administrators, and the general public
  • The ability to enforce school regulations and policies in a professional manner
  • Strong interpersonal skills to maintain good working relationships with fellow employees and pupils
  • The ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. and push/pull up to 10 lbs.
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills to ensure accurate and efficient support for students

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are highly valued:

  • Experience working in an educational setting, particularly in a support role
  • Knowledge of best practices in academic support and intervention
  • Experience with technology-based learning platforms and tools

Compensation and Benefits

We offer a competitive salary range of $18.00-$20.16, based on experience, as per the 2023-2024 Teaching Assistant Salary Schedule. In addition, you'll have access to a comprehensive benefits package, including fully board-paid medical, dental, and vision insurance.
