The University of Kansas Applied English Center is seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to fill the role of Student Services Coordinator. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in promoting and enhancing communications with current and prospective students, designing and implementing student programming and outreach initiatives, supervising and supporting student workers, managing the front desk, and providing administrative support to the Applied English Center.

About the Applied English Center (AEC)

The AEC is a dynamic and innovative department at the University of Kansas that focuses on academic English and helps prepare students linguistically, academically, and culturally for their program of study. We offer a range of programs and services, including tutoring, advising, customized courses, and various events and activities. Our team is passionate about supporting the success of our students, and we are looking for a talented and dedicated individual to join our team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Programming, Media, and Outreach Coordinator
    • Administers all AEC social media accounts to ensure updated and consistent content.
    • Designs and distributes high-quality text, image, and video content for social media, website, and print.
    • Develops and maintains day-to-day engagement strategies for AEC social media accounts.
    • Assesses and reports on social media engagement and recommends changes in strategy.
    • Coordinates and edits photography and videography for recruitment and outreach efforts.
  • Coordinator of Front Desk and Student Services
    • Hires, schedules, supports, and provides on-going training of student assistants for Language & Culture Liaison (LCL) positions.
    • Supervises LCLs in their roles as front desk staff, conversation group leaders, and computer lab support.
    • Provides backup coverage to front desk, conversation groups, and LEO Lab, as needed.
    • Approves work time for student assistants.
  • General Administrative Support
    • Assists with entering pertinent enrollment information and allowances into Jayhawk GPS.
    • Assists with enrolling students during regular enrollment and pre-enrollment; updates enrollments as needed.
    • Assists with explaining the enrollment process to students.
    • Provides general administrative support as needed, including managing inventory, handling mail, and maintaining budget parameters.

Essential Qualifications

  • High school diploma/GED equivalency PLUS four (4) years of office experience.
  • Prior work experience with social media, as evidenced in application materials.
  • One year of experience in a professional office setting.
  • Excellent written communication skills, as evidenced by application materials.
  • Experience working with diverse and/or international populations.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid U.S. Driver's License upon hire and throughout duration of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • One (1) year of experience with enrollment procedures at an educational institution.
  • Experience supervising students.
  • At least one (1) year of experience working with confidential records and commensurate knowledge of rules, regulations, policies, and procedures related to privacy (e.g., FERPA).
  • Travel or residency outside the United States.
  • Knowledge of a language other than English.

Compensation and Perks

The salary range for this position is $37,000, commensurate with experience. We also offer a comprehensive benefits package, as outlined above.
