Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and highly qualified Assistant Professor of Rhetoric and Composition to join our team in the Department of English. The successful candidate will have a strong background in teaching and research in Rhetoric and Composition, with a particular focus on areas such as professional writing, digital rhetoric/composition, emerging technologies, history of rhetoric, cultural rhetorics, and multilingual literacies. This is a tenure-track position, and the successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the department's teaching, research, and service mission.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach a range of undergraduate and graduate courses in Rhetoric and Composition, including courses in professional writing, digital rhetoric/composition, and emerging technologies
- Develop and maintain an active research program in Rhetoric and Composition, with a focus on areas such as professional writing, digital rhetoric/composition, emerging technologies, history of rhetoric, cultural rhetorics, and multilingual literacies
- Provide academic advising and mentoring to undergraduate and graduate students
- Participate in departmental, college, and university service, including serving on committees and contributing to the development of new programs and initiatives
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary programs on campus, such as Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies
- Contribute to the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters Interdisciplinary Ph.D. program in Comparative Studies
- Contribute to the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters Center for Peace, Justice, and Human Rights
Essential Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition, or related field, at the time of appointment
- Strong background in teaching and research in Rhetoric and Composition
- Experience in teaching a range of undergraduate and graduate courses in Rhetoric and Composition
- Strong research agenda, with a focus on areas such as professional writing, digital rhetoric/composition, emerging technologies, history of rhetoric, cultural rhetorics, and multilingual literacies
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a diverse and inclusive environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in teaching courses in professional writing, digital rhetoric/composition, and emerging technologies
- Experience in developing and teaching online courses
- Experience in academic advising and mentoring
- Experience in departmental, college, and university service
- Experience in collaborating with interdisciplinary programs on campus
