Job Overview
This temporary and grant-funded position offers a unique opportunity for a skilled and dedicated individual to work closely with licensed teachers, staff, students, and parents/guardians. As an Instructional Assistant-Student Services, you will play a vital role in implementing specialized education programs, providing academic support, and fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment. Key Responsibilities
- Assist students under the direction of licensed staff, including tutoring, implementing classroom procedures, and reinforcing positive behavior
- Monitor and administer assessments, reinforce organizational and note-taking skills, and provide grading materials for immediate feedback
- Demonstrate the use of technology for instruction, drill, and remediation, as well as homework assignments
- Help students achieve IEP goals and assist with non-medical physical needs or personal care/toileting needs as required
- Develop basic knowledge of software usage to support staff and students, and possess the ability and willingness to learn and implement all appropriate school technology
- Support and supervise students during non-academic settings, such as off-campus programs and lab set-up/clean-up
- Collaborate with licensed staff to organize and supervise off-campus programs, perform classroom-related clerical tasks, and explain classroom procedures and materials to substitute teachers
- Participate in professional development activities to enhance job performance and cultivate inclusive and equitable working relationships with staff, students, and community members
Essential Qualifications
- Must have or obtain State and NCLB Approved Paraprofessional designation in accordance with Illinois State Board of Education requirements
- Physical ability to lift/move supplies, materials, and office equipment up to 50 lbs, as well as students needing assistance
- Able to sit at a workstation for extended periods and/or move frequently from workstation to various other areas of the building
- Proficient in the use of computers, office practices, procedures, and office equipment
- Project a positive image of the district to students, staff, and parents, and exhibit a positive employee attitude
- Demonstrate appropriate interpersonal skills and communicate clearly and respectfully with students, staff, parents, visitors, and the general public
- Awareness of a variety of student needs, including physical and social-emotional needs
- Ability to adapt to all subject areas and previous experience working with youth
Preferred Qualifications
- Valid driver's license
- Experience working in an educational setting, particularly with high school students
- Familiarity with software and technology used in educational settings
- Bilingual or multilingual skills
- Experience with students with diverse needs, including special education and English language learners
