Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Special Education Teacher to join our team. As a Special Education Teacher in a self-contained classroom, you will be responsible for planning and delivering personalized learning experiences for students with diverse needs, including cognitive, emotional, and physical disabilities. Key Responsibilities

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess the following essential qualifications:

  • A valid Alaska initial, professional, or master teaching certificate with an endorsement in special education
  • Evidence of content knowledge in the relevant subject area, demonstrated through a posted degree, minor, or passing Praxis Subject Assessments scores
  • Strong understanding of child development, learning theories, and special education principles and practices
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, parents, colleagues, and other stakeholders
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, with a high degree of flexibility and adaptability

Preferred Qualifications

While not essential, the following qualifications are highly desirable:

  • Experience working with students with diverse needs, including cognitive, emotional, and physical disabilities
  • Knowledge of and experience with evidence-based teaching strategies and interventions, such as positive behavioral supports and differentiated instruction
  • Familiarity with technology and digital resources, including learning management systems and educational software
  • Experience with data-driven instruction and progress monitoring, including the use of assessments and data to inform teaching practices
  • Bilingual or multilingual skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with students and families from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds
