Job Overview and Responsibilities

As a Senior Engineer on our Cyber Fraud and Abuse Prevention team, you will play a critical role in supporting the development and maintenance of applications and APIs used to prevent and detect fraudulent activities on Target.com. You will collaborate with a team of skilled engineers and analysts to design, develop, and implement robust and scalable systems that drive business value and protect our guests and assets. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Designing and developing back-end systems and data architectures that support the prevention and detection of fraudulent activities
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate data from multiple sources and explore emerging tools and technologies in the security and fraud prevention space
  • Participating in agile development methodologies, including pair programming, code reviews, and continuous learning opportunities
  • Implementing thoughtful design principles to optimize our mobile, highly scalable systems
  • Mentoring and guiding junior engineers and contributing to the development of best practices and standards
  • Writing well-structured, well-tested code that ensures accuracy and effectiveness

Essential Qualifications and Skills

To be successful in this role, you will need to possess a strong foundation in software engineering, design, and development, as well as experience with programming languages such as Java, Python, or C++. You should also have a solid understanding of REST-based API development, CI/CD toolchains, and DevOps practices. Additionally, you will need to demonstrate:

  • A strong desire to learn and grow your technical skills, including areas such as security, fraud prevention, and data engineering
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams
  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience
  • At least 2 years of software development or data engineering experience, with a focus on back-end systems and data architectures

Preferred Qualifications and Skills

While not required, the following skills and qualifications are highly desirable:

  • Experience with HBase, Postgres, Teradata, Cassandra, SQL Server, and Oracle
  • Familiarity with Hadoop ecosystem tools such as Hive, Pig, Spark, and others
  • Knowledge of front-end UI development and GraphQL
  • Experience with data integration using APIs, streaming technologies (Kafka), ETL, and other data integration patterns
  • Test-driven development experience and a strong understanding of testing principles
