We are now seeking an experienced TESOL Instructor to join our team as part of the New Vermonter Education Program (NVEP), a vital initiative supporting Afghan and other refugees as they settle into their new life in the U.S.

About the New Vermonter Education Program

The NVEP is hosted at the SIT campus and provides crucial support to refugees through the development of English communications skills and cultural competencies. As an NVEP Instructor, you will play a pivotal role in delivering English language and cultural immersion instruction and activities to students, both in-person and online. This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and families navigating a new cultural landscape.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver engaging English language and cultural integration lessons, content, and activities to groups of 15 to 20 students (ages 12 and up) in various formats, including in-person and virtual.
  • Design and implement formal and informal assessment tools to measure student outcomes in collaboration with the NVEP Coordinator and technical team.
  • Provide regular student attendance and engagement information to the program management team.
  • Utilize NVEP student learning management systems under the direction of the NVEP Coordinator.
  • Participate in instructor team meetings and professional development opportunities offered by the program.
  • Submit an end-of-course report detailing lessons learned and areas for improvement.
  • Complete assessment activities on student achievement, including narrative evaluations of each student's work and learning.

Essential Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A BA in Education, Certificate, or MA in TESOL, Education, or a related field.
  • A minimum of three years of language program management experience and five years of classroom teaching experience.
  • Native-level English language fluency or C2 level in the CERF, with excellent writing skills.
  • Knowledge and experience with communicative language teaching methodology, ELT resource materials, American history and culture, and the use of technology to support learning purposes.
  • Proven management experience, including directing teams with diverse functions, clear communication skills, and planning and carrying out management plans.
  • Cross-cultural teaching skills, strong leadership, effective communication (oral and written) skills, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, MS Outlook, and TEAMS) and Google Cloud applications (Google Classroom, Forms, and Sheets).
  • The ability to take initiative, be creative, flexible, and work independently and with a team.

Preferred Qualifications

While not essential, the following qualifications are highly desirable:

  • Familiarity with primary Afghan languages and culture.
  • Familiarity with U.S. Government grant management.
  • Up-to-date vaccination status, with boosters as recommended by the CDC.
