About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Lecturer in Law to join our team for a 12-month maternity cover period. As a Lecturer in Law, you will contribute to all areas of activity within the subject of Law, with a particular focus on teaching on our LLB and LLM Programmes. We are especially interested in candidates who share our passion for transformative legal education and have a relevant background in legal practice, which will help support our growing Law Clinic. The ideal candidate will be able to teach in at least two of the following fields: Equity and Trusts, Land and Property Law, Law of the European Union, Business Law, Family Law, Employment Law, and/or Professional practice subjects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach on our LLB and LLM Programmes, covering a range of law subjects, including but not limited to Equity and Trusts, Land and Property Law, Law of the European Union, Business Law, Family Law, Employment Law, and Professional practice subjects
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of our Law Clinic, providing students with hands-on experience in legal practice
  • Participate in the design, development, and implementation of curriculum initiatives, ensuring that our programmes remain relevant, innovative, and responsive to the needs of our students and the legal profession
  • Engage in research and scholarly activities, contributing to the advancement of knowledge in the field of law and enhancing the reputation of the University
  • Provide pastoral support and guidance to students, promoting their academic, personal, and professional development
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the University, fostering a culture of interdisciplinary research, teaching, and learning

Essential Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you will need to possess:

  • A strong academic background in Law, with a relevant degree (e.g., LLB, LLM, or PhD in Law)
  • Experience of teaching law at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level, with a proven track record of delivering high-quality education
  • A relevant background in legal practice, with experience of working in a law firm, legal clinic, or other legal setting
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to engage and inspire students
  • A commitment to transformative legal education, with a passion for promoting social justice, equality, and diversity

Preferred Qualifications

While not essential, the following qualifications and experiences are desirable:

  • A PhD in Law or a related field, with a strong research profile and a track record of publications
  • Experience of leading or contributing to curriculum development, with a focus on innovative and inclusive teaching practices
  • A background in legal research, with experience of designing and conducting research projects, and disseminating findings through publications and presentations
  • Experience of working with diverse student populations, with a commitment to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion in education

To succeed in this role, you will need to possess:

  • Strong subject knowledge and expertise in law, with the ability to teach and research in at least two of the specified fields
  • Excellent teaching and learning skills, with the ability to design and deliver engaging, inclusive, and effective learning experiences
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to engage and inspire students, colleagues, and external partners
  • A commitment to transformative legal education, with a passion for promoting social justice, equality, and diversity

Compensation, Perks, and Benefits

The full-time starting salary for this role is £41,814 per annum, with progression available in post to £45,449 per annum. In addition to your salary, you will have access to a range of benefits, including:
