About the Role
As a Patient Account Specialist, you will be the primary point of contact for patients and authorized representatives regarding their accounts, insurance, and billing inquiries. Your expertise and professionalism will be instrumental in resolving patient concerns, establishing payment arrangements, and ensuring timely follow-up on outstanding balances. Key Responsibilities
- Respond to patient inquiries and resolve concerns via phone, email, MyPeaceHealth, and letters, providing excellent customer service and ensuring patient satisfaction.
- Process Financial Assistance Applications, verify eligibility, and make manual adjustments to patient accounts according to PeaceHealth policy and Federal Poverty Level guidelines.
- Establish and monitor payment arrangements with patients, ensuring compliance with PeaceHealth's collection policy and achieving zero-balance accounts.
- Communicate with insurance companies, government agencies, and other parties to secure appropriate payment of accounts and resolve third-party issues.
- Perform data entry, maintain customer databases, and document all calls, ensuring accurate and up-to-date account information.
- Assist patients with outreach programs and maintain certifications as required by state and contractual obligations.
- Rebill, transfer payments, process refund requests, and adjust misapplied payments as necessary, ensuring accurate and efficient account management.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including skip tracing, insurance verification, and monitoring and negotiating settlements with third parties.
What You Bring
To excel in this role, you should possess a combination of education, experience, and skills that demonstrate your ability to provide exceptional patient account services.
Education and Experience
- College coursework in Accounting, Business, Medical Technology, Communications, or Social Work is preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in collections, customer service, billing, or a related medical field is preferred.
- Familiarity with government, commercial, and third-party billing is a plus.
Essential Skills and Competencies
- Proficient use of computers, including MS Office applications.
- Proficiency with 10-key calculators and alphanumeric data entry skills.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work independently and interdependently with staff and team members with limited supervision.
- Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent customer service skills, with a patient-centered approach.
