About the Role

We are currently seeking an experienced and passionate Special Education Teaching Assistant to join our team in Denver, CO. As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with special needs, working closely with teachers and staff to provide individualized instruction and care. Key Responsibilities

  • Follow and teach lesson plans provided by the regular teacher, adapting instruction to meet the needs of students with special needs
  • Instruct based on subject and grade-specific curriculum, using a range of teaching strategies to engage and motivate students
  • Monitor and assess student achievements and outcomes, providing feedback and support to help students reach their full potential
  • Exercise classroom and behavior management skills, creating a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students
  • Share your specialized knowledge to coach staff and support special education students, contributing to the development of individualized education plans (IEPs)

Essential Qualifications

  • Active Teaching license with a special education generalist (5-21) and/or special education specialist (5-21) endorsement(s)
  • Substitute Authorization (must have or be in the process of obtaining if license is expired)
  • Three professional references, including one from a previous direct supervisor
  • Completion of a Background Check for Scoot Education (reimbursed on your first paycheck) and the Colorado Department of Education (to receive your Substitute Authorization)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with students with special needs, including autism, mild moderate, severe, and multi-intensive disabilities
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed teaching practices, classroom management strategies, and behavioral intervention techniques
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with teachers, staff, and students
  • Flexibility and adaptability, with a willingness to work in a variety of educational settings and with diverse student populations
