Job Overview

In this critical position, you will work closely with teachers and students to provide personalized support, creating a nurturing and engaging learning environment. As a 504 1:1 Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in our educational team, contributing to the development and implementation of tailored learning plans, assisting with daily academic activities, and ensuring the overall well-being and safety of our students.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist students in their assigned daily academics as instructed by teachers, providing individualized support and guidance to ensure understanding and completion of tasks.
  • Help in grading work, assigning students individual academic tasks, and alerting teachers to special needs or requirements of individual students.
  • Provide escorts and assistance to students as necessary, ensuring their safety and well-being during transitions and activities.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date individual records for each student, tracking progress and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Distribute and collect educational materials, workbooks, and papers, and assist in preparing the learning environment to meet the needs of students.
  • Implement changes as needed to meet the individual needs of students, demonstrating flexibility and a commitment to adaptive learning practices.
  • Take responsibility for student safety education and accident prevention, reporting any unsafe conditions or incidents to the school principal promptly.
  • Supervise and intervene to regulate student behavior, alleviating the risk of harm to students or staff and promoting a positive, respectful learning environment.

Essential Qualifications

  • A strong passion for education and working with students with special needs, demonstrated through previous experience or education.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and other educational professionals.
  • Patience, empathy, and understanding, with a commitment to creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a flexible approach to adapting to changing circumstances and priorities.
  • Basic first aid and CPR training, or willingness to undertake training as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Formal education or training in special education, teaching assistance, or a related field.
  • Experience working with students with a range of special needs, including physical, emotional, or learning disabilities.
  • Familiarity with adaptive technologies and learning strategies, with the ability to integrate these into daily teaching practices.
