About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Special Education Teaching Assistant to support our high school students with disabilities. As a member of our team, you will work closely with our classroom teachers and building principals to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment. Your primary focus will be to assist and enhance the educational process of our students with disabilities in both instructional and non-instructional activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist teachers in meeting the needs of special education students, including developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Provide one-on-one support to students with disabilities, including academic and behavioral support
- Assist with classroom procedures and activities, including setting up materials, supervising students, and maintaining a safe and organized learning environment
- Communicate effectively with teachers, parents, and other staff members to ensure a collaborative and supportive team approach
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance your skills and knowledge in special education
Essential Qualifications
To be considered for this role, you must have:
- A current Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL), Illinois Substitute Teaching License, or Illinois Educator License with Stipulations Endorsed-Paraprofessional Educator
- An associate degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution, or 60 semester hours of coursework from a regionally accredited institution
- A high school diploma or equivalent, or a GED
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with children and adults
- A working knowledge of child guidance principles and practices, behavior management and positive reinforcement, classroom procedures and appropriate conduct, and basic record keeping methods
Preferred Qualifications
We prefer candidates with:
- Experience working with students with disabilities, particularly in a high school setting
- Knowledge of special education laws and regulations, including the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
- Experience with classroom management and behavior intervention strategies
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities
