Our division includes the following departments: ACCESS Center, Office of Equity and Affirmative Action/Youth Minors, Center for Transformative Justice (CTJ), McNair Scholars, Multicultural Student Services, Pride Center, Office of Title IX and Compliance, and Student Support Services. **Job Summary** The Student Services Specialist will work closely with the Director of Student Support Services to support the development, implementation, promotion, and evaluation of SSS programming and initiatives. This position will assist in evaluating program effectiveness and provide recommendations for improvement. The Specialist will also provide support for the supervision, coordination, and support of the SSS program's tutoring services, including helping to coordinate all tutor hiring, training, evaluation, and supervision. Additionally, the Specialist will provide writing skills assessments for students, writing instruction, and writing tutoring to SSS participants both individually and in small group settings. **Key Responsibilities** * Assist in the development, implementation, promotion, and evaluation of SSS programming and initiatives * Evaluate program effectiveness and provide recommendations for improvement * Provide support for the supervision, coordination, and support of the SSS program's tutoring services * Help coordinate all tutor hiring, training, evaluation, and supervision * Provide writing skills assessments for students, writing instruction, and writing tutoring to SSS participants * Work with students to identify and address academic and personal barriers to success * Develop and implement strategies to support student retention and success * Collaborate with other departments and units to support student success and retention * Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge **Essential Qualifications** * Bachelor's or Master's degree in English, English Education, or a related field * Experience in instructing and/or tutoring students * Strong communication and interpersonal skills * Ability to work effectively with diverse populations * Strong organizational and time management skills * Ability to work independently and as part of a team **Preferred Qualifications** * Master's degree in English, English Education, or a related field * Minimum 2 years of experience in instructing and/or tutoring at the post-secondary level * Knowledge or experience working in TRIO * Knowledge or experience with at-risk populations * Familiarity with retention issues * Computer literacy * Additional training and study **Skills and Competencies** * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills * Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment * Strong attention to detail and organizational skills * Ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, and staff * Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills * Ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines * Strong commitment to student success and retention **Career Growth Opportunities and Learning Benefits** The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse offers a range of career growth opportunities and learning benefits, including: * Professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge * Opportunities for advancement and career growth * Collaborative and supportive work environment * Access to a range of training and development programs * Opportunities to work with diverse populations and develop cultural competence **Work Environment and Company Culture** The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse is a dynamic and inclusive work environment that values diversity, equity, and inclusion.
