**Experienced Sustainable Energy Engineering Teaching Assistant – Summer Program for High School Students**

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Sustainable Energy Engineering Teaching Assistant to join our team at Johns Hopkins University for a summer program designed for high school students.
**About the Program**
Our Sustainable Energy Engineering (SEE) program is a four-week summer course that provides high school students with a comprehensive introduction to sustainable energy technologies and the field of engineering. The program is designed to be engaging, interactive, and hands-on, with a focus on developing critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration skills. As a Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the teaching efforts of our Instructor and Teaching Fellow, ensuring that students receive a high-quality educational experience.
**Responsibilities**
As a Sustainable Energy Engineering Teaching Assistant, your key responsibilities will include:
* Supporting the teaching efforts of the Instructor and Teaching Fellow, including leading hands-on lab experiments and group data analysis
* Assisting with grading homework and other activities, providing detailed feedback to students to help them learn and improve
* Holding study sessions to help students understand lectures, labs, assignments, and projects
* Ensuring that child safety protocols are upheld and that students receive their graded assigned work promptly within 1-2 days of the assignment due date
* Working with the Instructor and Teaching Fellow to develop a sense of community for the high school students participating in the program
* Organizing hands-on project/lab supplies to ensure that students have the materials they need for each day of class
**Requirements**
To be successful in this role, you will need:
* A strong background in engineering principles, including trigonometry, algebra 2, and physics
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with students, instructors, and colleagues
* A positive attitude and enthusiasm for engineering and education
* Familiarity with Canvas or similar LMS and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams
* Physical presence required during the course, with access to a remote/virtual work environment for training prior to the course
**Preferred Qualifications**
While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:
* A strong understanding of general engineering principles and a passion for sustainable energy
* Experience working with high school students or in an educational setting
* Familiarity with Zoom or similar video conferencing software
* Availability to participate in pre-course training and to work during the summer program, from July 3 to July 28, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
