Job Summary

We are seeking experienced and dedicated tutors to join our team as part of our Supplemental Instruction (SI) program, Tutoring services, and Dedicated Tutoring. As a tutor, you will play a vital role in supporting students in their academic coursework, providing guidance and mentorship to help them achieve their goals. Key Responsibilities

As a tutor, dedicated tutor, or SI leader, your key responsibilities will include:
  • Tutoring students one-on-one and in groups in study areas, computer areas, or in classrooms
  • Addressing student issues or referring them to the appropriate department for assistance
  • Providing information to students regarding college policies and procedures
  • Participating in all tutor trainings (pre-quarter and weekly)
  • Checking materials in and out
  • Answering telephones, greeting, and assisting customers
  • Visiting classes and providing short orientations about the tutoring/SI program(s)
  • Performing related duties as assigned

SI Leaders' Responsibilities

As an SI leader, your responsibilities will include:
  • Planning and leading group study sessions for students
  • Attending all class meetings of SI course(s)
  • Modeling good study habits and attendance
  • Holding office hours for planning and one-on-one meetings with students
  • Providing information to students regarding college policies and procedures
  • Addressing student issues or referring them to the appropriate department for assistance
  • Attending pre-quarter training and weekly leader meetings
  • Performing related duties as assigned

Dedicated Tutors' Responsibilities

As a dedicated tutor, your responsibilities will include:
  • Attending at least one class per week, as arranged
  • Actively assisting students one-on-one, in small groups, or with limited class presentations
  • Keeping up with course work
  • Working closely with the course instructor to prepare to meet students' learning needs
  • Attending all trainings and completing detailed logs for each week's tutoring activities
  • Performing related duties as assigned

Qualifications

To be considered for this role, you must meet the following qualifications:
  • High School graduation or equivalent, or TCC student
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher in related courses
  • Math tutors: Ability to tutor at least one 100-level math class and algebra series
  • Science tutors: Ability to tutor at least one 100-level science course
  • SI: Successful completion of course(s) you wish to support at TCC
  • Dedicated Tutoring: Ability to tutor the supported course

Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Current TCC student or alumni
  • Commitment to multiple quarters is preferred
  • BEC only: The ability to tutor in more than one business area
  • MARC only: The ability to tutor calculus (Math 148 or Math 151) or Statistics, as well as other 100-level class(s) and our algebra series
  • WTC only: The ability to tutor in more than one liberal arts area, or across disciplines

Compensation, Perks, and Benefits

  • A competitive hourly rate of $16.00 per hour
