Key Responsibilities

Core Functions as an Online Learning Teacher

  • Curriculum Development & Delivery – Design, adapt, and implement standards‑aligned digital lesson plans that reflect WCPS goals and the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) requirements.
  • Instructional Innovation – Leverage interactive platforms, multimedia resources, and differentiated instruction techniques to meet the diverse learning styles of K‑12 students.
  • Assessment & Feedback – Conduct formative and summative assessments, analyze data, and provide timely, constructive feedback to guide student growth.
  • Classroom Management (Virtual) – Establish clear expectations for online conduct, monitor student participation, and maintain a safe, inclusive digital learning environment.
  • Gradebook Maintenance – Accurately record grades, attendance, and progress reports in compliance with district policies.
  • Parental Communication – Foster regular, transparent communication with parents/guardians through email, virtual conferences, and digital newsletters.
  • Collaboration with Instructional Teams – Coordinate with subject matter experts, special education staff, and ESL instructors to ensure cohesive instructional support.

Core Functions as a Family Services Coordinator

  • Data‑Driven Student Support – Partner with school counselors to collect and analyze student data, facilitating the creation and monitoring of 504 plans and individualized support strategies.
  • Special Education Liaison – Work closely with special‑education teachers to identify students eligible for after‑school online learning interventions and ensure appropriate accommodations.
  • English Language Learner (ELL) Advocacy – Collaborate with ELL teachers to connect learners and families to targeted language‑support resources.
  • After‑School Program Integration – Coordinate with program coordinators to link students with food assistance, transportation services, credit‑recovery options, and first‑time credit courses.
  • Family Engagement & Problem Solving – Conduct outreach to parents/guardians, assess barriers to learning, and co‑create actionable plans that promote college and career readiness.
  • Resource Referral & Advocacy – Navigate community partnerships, social service agencies, and state programs to secure comprehensive support for students and families.
  • Continuous Improvement – Participate in school‑wide initiatives, professional learning communities, and data‑review cycles to refine family‑service processes.

Essential Qualifications

  • Maryland State Teaching Certification with a valid endorsement in the relevant subject area (or eligibility for a Professional Eligibility Certificate for out‑of‑state candidates).
  • 10‑Month Full‑Time Commitment (190 contract days) and willingness to work within the WCPS schedule.
  • Demonstrated Expertise in online instructional design, virtual classroom management, and digital assessment tools.
  • Strong Interpersonal Skills to build trusting relationships with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent Written and Oral Communication in English, with the ability to produce clear instructional materials and correspondence.

  • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems (Canvas, Moodle, Google Classroom) and data‑tracking platforms.
  • Experience coordinating 504 plans, Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), or other student support mechanisms.
  • Evidence of successful family outreach initiatives, community partnership development, or grant‑writing for student services.
  • Advanced training in culturally responsive pedagogy, trauma‑informed practices, or restorative discipline.
  • Proficiency in bilingual communication (Spanish, French, or other languages) is a strong asset.
