Position Overview

Based from anywhere in the United States (the role is fully remote), you will serve as the senior strategic advisor for fiber broadband technologies, bridging the gap between technical possibilities and business imperatives. You will conduct deep‑dive research, craft scenario‑based forecasts, and synthesize technical, financial, and strategic insight into clear recommendations for senior leadership. This position reports directly to the VP of Technology Strategy and collaborates with cross‑functional partners across network engineering, product development, finance, and corporate strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic foresight: Lead scenario‑planning initiatives that map out multiple future states of fiber broadband technology, including emerging standards such as XGS‑PON, NG‑PON2, and space‑based backhaul.
  • Technical evaluation: Assess complex technical data, market trends, and competitive intelligence to build rigorous, evidence‑based hypotheses about technology adoption curves, cost structures, and performance trade‑offs.
  • Financial modeling: Integrate Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) analyses, ROI forecasts, and risk assessments into strategic recommendations that align with AT&T’s long‑term financial goals.
  • Cross‑functional collaboration: Partner with network architects, product managers, and market analysts to ensure that strategic insights are translated into executable road‑maps and product specs.
  • Executive communication: Distill complex technical narratives into concise, compelling presentations for senior executives, board members, and external stakeholders.
  • Thought leadership: Publish white papers, internal briefs, and industry‑focused articles that position AT&T as a thought leader in fiber broadband innovation.
  • Mentorship & talent development: Coach junior strategists and analysts, fostering a culture of curiosity, analytical rigor, and continuous learning.
  • Regulatory and standards awareness: Monitor FCC rulings, international standards bodies, and emerging policy frameworks to anticipate regulatory impacts on technology strategy.

Essential Qualifications

  • 8–10+ years of experience in technology strategy, network architecture, or related fields, with a proven track record of influencing senior‑level decision‑making.
  • Deep technical understanding of fiber broadband technologies, including but not limited to GPON, XGS‑PON, NG‑PON2, DWDM, and emerging quantum‑ready transport solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical data into clear strategic narratives for non‑technical audiences.
  • Strong quantitative skills, including experience building financial models, TCO calculations, and scenario‑analysis frameworks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a history of delivering high‑impact presentations to C‑suite executives.
  • Proficiency with strategic analysis tools (e.g., Porter’s Five Forces, SWOT, Business Model Canvas) and data visualization platforms such as Tableau or Power BI.
  • BA/BS in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Applied Science, Mathematics, or a closely related discipline. Advanced degrees (MS, MBA) are a plus.

Preferred (But Not Mandatory) Qualifications

  • MBA or advanced graduate degree with a focus on technology management or strategic planning.
  • Experience working in a large, multinational telecom or broadband provider.
  • Published research or patents related to fiber optics, network optimization, or emerging transport technologies.
  • Familiarity with agile product development cycles and the ability to work within Scrum or SAFe frameworks.
  • Professional certifications such as TOGAF, ITIL, or PMP.
