Programme Overview – What Makes This Opportunity Different?

Our 24‑month Graduate Development Programme is purpose‑built to accelerate your growth into a future Procurement and Supply Chain leader. You will rotate through four distinct six‑month placements, each within a different business unit – Aviation, Land, Marine, and Nuclear – giving you exposure to a wide array of sourcing strategies, contract negotiations, supplier management techniques, and sustainability initiatives.

Every placement is designed to be immersive, hands‑on, and results‑oriented. You will work side‑by‑side with senior category managers, operational procurement specialists, and supply chain analysts, contributing to projects that directly impact Babcock’s €2 billion annual spend and our ability to deliver on multimillion‑dollar contracts worldwide.

Key Responsibilities – Your Day‑to‑Day Impact

Across the four rotations, you will be expected to contribute to the following core activities. While specific tasks will vary by placement, each responsibility is crafted to develop a holistic understanding of procurement and supply chain excellence.

  • Strategic Sourcing & Category Management: Assist in developing and executing sourcing strategies for high‑value categories, conducting market research, and analysing spend data to identify cost‑saving opportunities.
  • Supplier Relationship Management: Support the management of supplier performance, risk assessments, and quality audits, ensuring compliance with Babcock’s rigorous standards and sustainability goals.
  • Contract Lifecycle Management: Participate in drafting, negotiating, and reviewing contracts, from source‑to‑contract through to contract execution and renewal.
  • Operational Procurement Execution: Process purchase orders, manage requisitions, and coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of goods and services.
  • Data‑Driven Decision Making: Utilise procurement analytics tools to generate spend insights, forecast demand, and create dashboards that drive strategic decisions.
  • Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Partner with engineering, project management, finance, and legal teams to align procurement activities with broader business objectives.
  • Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Contribute ideas to enhance procurement processes, digital tool adoption, and sustainability initiatives across the supply chain.

  • Self‑Starter Attitude: Proactive, results‑oriented, and comfortable working in a fast‑paced, ambiguous environment.
  • Team Player: Ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams, building trust and influence without direct authority.
  • Technical Literacy: Familiarity with Microsoft Office (especially Excel), and a willingness to learn procurement software such as SAP Ariba, Coupa, or similar platforms.
