About the Role

As a Store Designer in our Chicago Plan Studio, you'll play a critical role in supporting our regional store design process to create exceptional store plans that meet the needs of our customers and drive business success. Our stores are the heart of the Starbucks Experience, and we're looking for a talented individual to join our team and help us create inviting Third Places that foster daily coffee ceremonies and community.

Key Responsibilities

As a Store Designer, you'll be responsible for:
  • Executing the Plan methodology in the design of Starbucks stores through all phases of design from schematic through construction documents and coordination within the boundaries of individual store budgets and market requirements with guidance from cross-functional teams.
  • Experiencing success by contributing to studio team objectives by achieving goal expectations on the number of stores and meeting all established time constraints from the perspective of Starbucks Missions and Values while supported with regular check-in meetings with your supervisor.
  • Fostering plan documentation to support design goals per regional regulations including schematic drawings and final ranges and managing the creation of construction documents by internal and external designers and specialists.
  • Being responsible for the integrity and quality of the construction documents comprehensive of design intent, detailing, code requirements, scheduling, and MEPs.
  • Enjoying working with an energetic, fun team and having a clear ability to drive the business forward as part of a highly collaborative team, while acting in accordance with Starbucks core values.

We're Looking for Someone with:

If you're a motivated and creative individual with a passion for design, we'd love to hear from you. To be successful in this role, you'll need to have:
  • Shown 3D perception ability and working knowledge of design and planning principles. Some experience in the creation of design concepts through execution is a plus.
  • Current knowledge of industry trends in retail location and café design including furniture and finishes.
  • Current working knowledge of building and safety codes and compliance issues.
  • Ability to provide clear, effective, and timely communication of design intent and changes to internal designers and external specialists.
  • Ability to recognize exceptions, and propose, and execute design solutions.
  • Ability to adjust design, with functional requirements and budget goals resulting in exceptional store conditions.
  • Ability to execute multiple designs under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to discuss design with hand sketches/drawings.
  • Talented in the visual, written, and verbal communication of design issues.
  • Ability to interpret expressed design standards/goals into unique and varied store environments.
  • Knowledge of architectural details and determinations for construction document creation.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Organizational skills; attention to detail.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks with addressing and critical thinking abilities.
  • Capability in Adobe InDesign and delivering projects like Enscape.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you'll need to have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Interior Design, or Environmental Design or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in CAD drafting using Revit, AutoCAD, and Sketchup software.
  • Project management experience.
  • Retail, hospitality, or restaurant design or development experience.
  • Experience managing external architectural or design specialists.
