Your Role at a Glance
The Production Artist is a full-time, hourly, role that reports to the Director of Art, Branding & Production in the Production department.
This position is responsible for preparing and modifying files for print and digital publication. This includes creation, page layout, formatting, and technical editing of production files for print and digital production. Products include textbooks, ancillary curriculum materials (selected answers, toolkits, guided skills support, lesson samples, resource pages and resource kits), resources for professional learning and marketing. This is a full-time remote position. Hardware and software are provided, but a reliable internet connection and quiet workspace are required.
Requirements
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Work independently to create technical illustrations using graphing software and the Adobe Creative Suite.
• Use FX Graph and FX Stats for coordinate graphs and statistical graphs
• Use Adobe Illustrator templates to ensure common graph types and diagrams remain consistent
• Use appropriate sizing, domain/range, and scaling in order to best display function/data.
• Ensure graphs and diagrams adhere to the visual style guide. This may include redesigning the image from the example in order to align with style guide
• Ensure graphs and diagrams are visually consistent with nearby graphs and diagrams.
• Make sure graphs and diagrams serve the intended purpose and make sense in the context of the text.
• Edit graphs, diagrams and illustrations using Adobe Illustrator or Adobe Photoshop.
• Work closely with the rest of the Production team.
• Review team member work.
• Share ideas and techniques to improve execution.
• Name and organize files according to guidelines to make available to the rest of the Production team.
• Work with the author team and other departments to receive and execute on image creation, revisions/updates.
• Reach out for more information when necessary.
• Make changes in accordance with feedback in a prompt and complete manner.
• Create, edit and review textbook chapters and other documents for print in Adobe InDesign.
• Use paragraph and character styles.
• Know and follow page layout conventions.
• Format equations, expressions and other mathematical notations in text.
• Review layouts translated into other languages to ensure style consistency.
• Create and update documentation (procedures, style guides etc.).
Additional responsibilities aligned with the needs of the organization.

• Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Required Skills/Experience: Comfortable producing content for print and web formats. Intermediate to advanced skill with Adobe Illustrator and InDesign. Proficient in Adobe Photoshop. Experience editing illustrations in both vector and raster formats. Excellent understanding of the fundamentals of graphic design and able to interpret and implement brand and visual style guidelines. Understanding of information design. Ability to read and understand typical math problems up through grade 11 content. Familiar with mathematical vocabulary and notation. Comfortable with mathematics and graphing, including algebra and geometry. Familiar with different types of statistical graphs and able to interpret them. Essential professional skills including business communication, organization, time management, priority management, and task management. Comfortable using project management software such as Asana, or willingness to learn.
Nice to Have
• Experience in publication production or design environments. Teaching experience, especially in mathematics. Experience with technical illustration. Experience with math software such as Desmos. Experience with languages such as MathML and LaTex. Editorial/proofing experience. Pre-press management experience.

• Computer Skills: An individual should have knowledge of Google Workspace. Knowledge of basic office equipment should include: Internet, email, telephone, and computers. Ability to learn to use unfamiliar software.
• Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: A current driver's license and proof of auto insurance are required if driving for work.
