Commissioning and Start-Up Operations
- Execute the start-up procedures of hydrogen generation systems in alignment with standard operating protocols and engineering documentation.
 - Calibrate and adjust instruments and control systems (temperature, pressure, flow, etc.) to ensure safe and efficient hydrogen production.
 - Identify and troubleshoot operational issues during commissioning, coordinating with engineering teams to implement corrective actions.
 - Validate system performance according to design specs, logging deviations and adjustments for final handover.
 
- Continuously monitor temperatures, pressures, and hydrogen purity levels across all 20 stations using both local and remote instrumentation.
 - Ensure all safety interlocks and emergency shutdown systems are operational.
 - Verify hydrogen meets storage-grade purity requirements before being transferred to salt mine caverns.
 - Maintain logs and digital records for process data and report anomalies immediately.
 
- Handle caustic soda under pressure with full adherence to chemical handling protocols due to its high corrosiveness and reactivity.
 - Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow hazard communication standards.
 - Inspect and verify the integrity of chemical delivery systems, pumps, and valves regularly.
 
- Perform initial flushing of piping systems with appropriate fluids to remove debris or contaminants.
 - Conduct purging of pipes using hydrogen gas, ensuring complete displacement of air and safe venting.
 - Operate solenoid valves and follow Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) to confirm correct valve line-ups and flow paths.
 - Ensure all gas-handling steps meet explosion-proof and ATEX zoning safety standards.
 
- Interface with PLC/SCADA systems to monitor and adjust operational parameters.
 - Verify sensor calibration and instrument loops during commissioning phases.
 - Support automation engineers in testing interlocks, alarms, and control sequences.
 
- Comply with all safety regulations and hydrogen-specific protocols (e.g., ATEX, IECEx, NFPA 55).
 - Participate in Job Safety Analyses (JSA) and contribute to risk assessments during each operational phase.
 - Maintain up-to-date knowledge of safety procedures and attend all mandatory training.
 
- Participate in a 3-week rotation schedule as part of a team supporting the 6-month commissioning and startup project.
 - Coordinate with cross-functional teams across both buildings to ensure alignment on workflows, priorities, and progress.
 - Contribute to shift handovers with clear documentation and communication.
 
- Must be able to walk long distances
 - Must be able to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl
 - Must be able to stand for extended durations
 - Must be able to reach in all directions
 - Must have good visual acuity with regards to color, depth perception and field vision
 - Must be able to work in various weather conditions including extreme heat and cold temperatures
 - Must be alert and able to determine job related hazards and recognize when hazards change
 - Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally. Preferably holds current certification in Swagelok and Parker tubing fitting installation (Will accept expired certification depending on experience
 
- Engineering degree or technical diploma or very experienced in Mechanical, Instrumentation, or Chemical disciplines
 - Minimum 5 years of experience in commissioning/start-up of gas systems (preferably hydrogen)
 - Familiarity with control systems, instrumentation calibration, and hydrogen safety protocols
 - Strong knowledge of P&ID interpretation
 - Experience with hydrogen or similar high-purity gas systems is a strong asset
