DenverÂs Department of Safety includes Police, Fire, Sheriff, Community Corrections, Safe City and other community agencies. Denver 311 provides residents with an accessible way to navigate city services and provide customer service to all community members. DenverÂs Department of Public Safety is seeking to build an entry level Non- Emergency Communication Operations team. Individuals on this team will be responsible for taking high volume calls on the non-emergency phone line. Individuals on this team will enjoy a fully remote schedule after successful completion of on the job in person training. Successful candidates will have a variety of growth opportunities within The City and County of Denver. Possible promotional opportunities include: Emergency Communications Operator 9-1-1 Dispatch Support Specialist Lead Emergency Communications Technician Police Dispatcher Police Lead Dispatcher Emergency Communications Supervisor 3-1-1 Customer Service Agent  Fully remote Job Responsibilities will include: Answers a high volume of calls on the non-emergency phone line and provides basic instructions and assistance to individuals who are calling for non-emergency requests. Quickly identifies emergency or crisis situations requiring police, emergency medical services, and/or fire assistance and routes the call appropriately. Conducts research, using a variety of city resources, to provide customers with answers to inquiries. Identifies a callerÂs request and routes their call appropriately. Works independently in interviewing a caller to accurately assess the situation. Documents customer inquiries/problems and resolutions into a tracking system. Performs other related duties as assigned. The Department of Safety is a 24/7 operation though this position will be help support agencies during the most active times: 8, 10 or 12-hour shift work Days or swing (Between the hours of 7:00am  10:00pm) weekends holidays overtime on short notice About You The ideal candidate will have: Strong critical thinking skills and ability to make quick decisions Ability to work under stressful conditions Clear speech, hearing accuracy and visual acuity Ability to deal with the public and user agencies Ability to remember oral and written instructions Ability to write clearly and spell correctly Developed typing skills or keyboard familiarity Ability to interface with the computer Ability to type and talk simultaneously Ability to remain calm while dealing with frightened, hysterical or angry callers Ability to work in a team environment and work well with others Below are the minimum requirements used to determine eligibility for this position: Education requirement: Graduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC Certificate. Experience Requirement: None Education/Experience Equivalency: None License/Certifications: By position, requires a valid driver's license at the time of application. By position, requires a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL \"A\") or (CDL ÂBÂ) at time of application. By position, requires a current CPR certification at time of application. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment. Must pass an initial pre-security clearance screening and maintain CBI (Colorado Bureau of Investigation) certification as a condition of employment.
