Description
Anyone with prior experience handling investigations and claims as they pertain to issues of discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct should consider this fully remote role we are staffing with a higher education group. The ideal candidate has at least some proven experience in this field, prior work in the education setting, and a passion for investigations.
We would strongly consider someone who is not an attorney – paralegals, JDs, or investigators are encouraged to apply. This role is fully remote, M-F 8:30-5, and is ongoing temp with the possibility of going permanent, dependent on work performance and team fit.
Day to day:
Act as the main contact for teachers, employees, and students about issues like discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct.
Handle complaints from various university members carefully to decide whether to investigate or pass it on to the appropriate place.
Carry out investigations into sexual misconduct and harassment complaints, among others.
Conduct interviews with all parties involved and review any relevant documents or evidence.
Write detailed reports based on what's discovered during investigations, including summaries of interviews and recommendations.
Provide information or testimonies in disciplinary proceedings related to investigations.
Help evaluate and improve the university's policies around these issues.
Give training programs to other group members, including high-level management, on these topics.
Perform other tasks as needed, such as participating in committees or initiatives.
Requirements
You would be a fantastic fit if you have:
JD from an accredited law school at minimum OR prior investigations experience.
Five years of experience investigating and resolving discrimination/harassment complaints. Other comparable experience may serve as a substitute for investigatory experience (i.e. litigation experience, HR investigatory experience).
Complaint processing experience in higher education (preferred).
Experience developing and presenting educational materials on sexual misconduct, harassment, discrimination, retaliation and diversity.
Exceptional writing and analytical skills.
Exceptional interpersonal skills, communication skills, and emotional intelligence.
Ability to manage and work with conflict, including meeting with individuals who may be experiencing high levels of stress.
Ability to work independently and efficiently, and to balance workload.
Demonstrated expertise in applying relevant federal, state and local laws.
